Give Holland a break - 
Kitkat's first ever nationwide break

Since 1958, KitKat has been known for its iconic ‘Have a break, have a KitKat’ tagline. But for the launch of the new KitKat Chunky Double Caramel -the biggest KitKat to date- we needed to come up with the biggest break ever. A break not just for one person, but for a whole country. So we decided to get rid of Gordon -Holland’s most annoying and polarising celebrity- by sending him to a desert island.

Website - Phase 1

There were five possible destinations awaiting our hideous celebrity, each of them further and lonelier. We then gave everyone in Holland the power to decide Gordon's fate: every tweet and post helped send him a km further.

Website - Phase 2

But wait! What about those crazy enough to miss Gordon? And what if people wondered “this whole island thing” was just another advertising stunt? We turned our digital platform into a website that strongly encouraged people not to visit it. For those stubborn enough to keep trying, we had a little reward: three minutes of live stream from the island.

Gordon Blocker

During the Gordon-free period, we created a Chrome extension that alerted users whenever there was a chance to run into Gordon content. The extension was available for download in the Chrome Web Store.
